1. Shelter and sleep, built for two

One shelter that fits two adults and their bags, and a sleep setup where nobody borrows the other person's warmth. This group decides tomorrow's mood.

  1. Two-door tent or double swag, pitched together at home first Essential
  2. Groundsheet cut slightly smaller than the floor Essential
  3. Mallet and spare pegs — one person holds, one hammers Essential
  4. Own sleeping bag each, rated below the coldest forecast night Essential
  5. Double insulated mat or two singles — the quiz decides Essential
  6. Two real pillows, not one and a jumper bundle

2. The two-person kitchen

One cook, one wash partner, and capacity for a proper dinner without a market stall. The kitchen is the evening's stage; keep it small enough to own.

  1. Two-burner stove with sealed canisters Essential
  2. Kettle that does coffee and dumplings
  3. Cook set for two: pan, pot, board, two everything
  4. Cold storage sized to the weekend — esky or 12V fridge
  5. Sealed food bin for the wildlife shift Essential
  6. Wash basin, bio soap, two tea towels
  7. Bin bags, and one person owns carrying them out Essential

3. Water and shade, the daily numbers

Two people make more decisions per day than one, and heat doubles them. Count the water once, together, and put the shade up first.

  1. Fifteen-litre water container with tap, refill planned Essential
  2. Two refillable bottles for the day's walks
  3. Shade sail or awning with poles — the living room
  4. SPF 50+ sunscreen and hats for both Essential

4. Light and atmosphere

A well-lit site in the wrong register becomes a car park. Two lights that warm the evening and one on each head keep the night civilised.

  1. Headtorch each, so no one is dependent Essential
  2. One warm-toned lantern for the table
  3. Solar string lights for the awning — yes, really
  4. Charged power bank shared by treaty

5. Safety and the shared admin

The unglamorous group that ends arguments fast: first aid, fire cover, and one written plan both people have actually read.

  1. Sealed first-aid kit, checked and in date together Essential
  2. Fire blanket or extinguisher at the kitchen point
  3. Trip plan and bookings in one waterproof pouch
  4. Multi-tool, tape and the repair kit owner's name on it
