Practical advice for Australian conditions
Track & Canopy started because most gear advice is written from a couch. Ours is written from the driver's seat, the trailhead and the high-water mark — after the gear has been dusty, soaked and roasted at least once.
We are a small editorial desk of Australian campers and four-wheel drivers. No manufactured personas, no borrowed credentials: when we say a swag survived a Creek Flat downpour, that happened to one of us, and we'll show you the seam that complained afterwards. Today that work adds up to 58 guides, 9 explainers, 19 product reviews and 15 free tools — all of it written for the conditions we actually drive, walk and pitch in.
How we test
- Every product is bought or borrowed and used on real trips before it is rated — spec sheets are claims, a season of use is evidence.
- We log failures honestly — a torn sleeve or a dead battery is part of the review, not a footnote.
- Calculators use conservative, field-checked numbers, and every assumption is published on the tool itself so you can disagree with the maths.
- Anything we couldn't verify is marked unverified or left blank — never guessed into confidence.
How we're funded
Some links are affiliate links, all pointing to Amazon.com.au. If you buy through them we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It never changes a verdict, it is always disclosed, and the full mechanics — including our tracking ID — live on the affiliate disclosure page. There are no display ads, no sponsored posts and no paywalls.
What we will never do
- Sell a placement, a ranking or a review.
- Recommend gear we haven't used or specs we haven't checked.
- Trade your data. The privacy policy lists every cookie the site sets — it is a short, boring list on purpose.
- Quietly fix a mistake. Corrections are made visibly under our editorial policy.
